For class we did three different activities.
The first was we had to find examples of the three things listed below.
Smell Blindness: I asked a friend if she had any examples of smell blindness and they only thing
that she could come up with was when she is sick, her nose is all stuffed up,
so she can't smell as well.
Smell Adaptation: People say that our apartment has a different smell to it (Not bad). We
obviously don't smell anything because we live there so we are used to it.
Smell Assimilation: For this one, I decided to use an example of my personal life. Whenever I
smell rain, I think of state track my Junior year of High School. We had to run
in the rain for finals, and we ended up making it onto the podium.
The next activity we had to do was ask various people a question. My question that I asked was if men/women like to be around other men/women who use perfume/cologne. 7 people said yes that they preferred to be around people that smelled nice. 3 people said that they didn't care, and 1 person said she didn't like to. Her explanation for this was that if someone is wearing too much perfume or cologne, it makes her sneeze. I posted the question to facebook so any of the people who are my friends could answer. I like this idea better because then if someone answered who isn't necessarily my friend, it wasn't a biased answer. Also, it helped that once everyone answered, they explained and expanded on their answer.
The last activity we had to do was go to the store and find different products that have a scent that doesn't necessarily help get the job done. Below is a list of the different products that I found and what they were suppose to smell like.
